On the special Valentine’s Day episode of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, singer-songwriter Jason Mraz will perform the opening and closing songs, two classic tunes written by Fred Rogers. In case you haven’t kept up with the neighborhood news, Daniel Tiger is the son of the original Daniel Striped Tiger.

Jason Mraz is a peace-loving, easy-go-lucky guy. And a fan of the original Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. There is a Fred Rogers quote in the insert of his album Love Is A Four Letter Word. Understanding love is one of the hardest things in the world. Instead of the usual picture of the artist or lyrics of the songs, there are photos of felt cutouts forming the word Love.

The producers of the current series gave him a call.
Mraz is a man without a TV but he says that watching Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood as a kid taught him about equality, fairness and being creative. He says that so much of what he learned in his life came from Fred Rogers.

I heard an interview with Mr. Rogers and will always connect him with the number 143. He said that he weighed exactly 143 pounds for the last 30 years of his life and saw the number as a gift ~ The number 143 means ‘I love you.’ It takes one letter to say ‘I’ and four letters to say ‘love’ and three letters to say ‘you.’ One hundred and forty-three.” That’s my kind of math.

So listen in on Thursday. Mraz will sing It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood and It’s Such a Good Feeling.
You can bet he’ll put his own spin on them. But nothing too crazy. Mraz says, “I recorded them wearing a cardigan.”
♥ HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY, NEIGHBOR.
MAKE IT A SPECIAL DAY ♥

Here’s the sheet music to help make it a snappy new day. And here.

To quote from a Valentine Card perched nearby:
Hapy Valntine’s Day (turn page) you’re just my type.

Thanks for this Post It was a great one for Valentine’s Day. I sent it to Kritter to have the girls listen to Mr. Rogers who Kritter and Jeff grew up listening to. I just love that guy.

I’m on the hunt for the PBS kids show today! Is there anything better than a Jason Mraz/Fred Rogers valentine? I still melt when I hear Jason sing Lucky, don’t you?

I came just a tad too early to watch Mister Rogers — and too late for Howdy Doody. (I learned at an early age that timing is everything.)
Even so, I hope yours is a wonderful Valentine’s Day!
I was able to listen to both Howdy and Fred, the former as a child with 6 siblings, the latter with my own kids. Hands down favorite is Mr. Rogers. Sweet piece, Toni.

Rogers/Mraz – fabulous combo. I love that Mraz says he recorded the songs wearing a cardigan. Fred Rogers should be required viewing for every child forever and ever.
